Look. I get it. It’s taken me forever to get this site up and running. And let’s be honest, we’re probably off to a soft start here.
I guess let me start off by introducing myself. I’m Salt. Yes I have a normal person name and most people know what it is, but I’ve come to realise lately that I don’t really identify too much with my actual name. There’s only a small handful of people that call me Andrew, and for the majority of my life I’ve gone by Salt or Salty.
I recently took part in a group art show called Grugged Up! that was put on by the amazing Inkmo, who is a fellow artist Naarm (Melbourne) artist and was all about celebrating the classic Australian literary figure called Grug. While I was at the gallery helping set up the event and filling out my information to go along with my pieces, I was writing out my full name, I guess you could say my “Government Name”, and just had a weird feeling putting it against my art for the first time I can remember. So I’ve decided from now on to just do all my art under the name Salt.
What do I want to do with this website? Well I guess I want to have it as a place for me to keep updated with what’s happening in my art world. Keep myself busy and accountable for doing work and continuing to be creative. I’m sure most if not all creative people fall into those periods where it’s hard to stay motivated. It’s easy to slip into negative ways of thinking and let creating and producing art fall to the wayside and get ignored. I want to try and change that for myself.
For one, I’ve fallen back into a situation where I’m doing art and streaming full time now. It’s my only income and if I let myself stagnate and not work, I won’t be able to pay my bills or eat, so as we head into 2024 in a few days I really want to make sure that I’m pushing myself to be as productive and positive as I can be moving forward.
You may notice I can get distracted easily, so what DO I want to do with this website? I’d like to be posting art here, talking about things that have come up on my stream and adding any context that is needed, linking to interesting things I come across in the art world, creating some tutorials for things like Procreate and Procreate Dreams. I plan to do a few things with the site, I hope you find them interesting.
Before I end up typing WAY too much (too late?) let me leave you with a picture of the pieces I did for the Grugged Up! art show. It was a lot of fun and I was very honoured to be a part of it. Thanks Inkmo!
